E. J. Bean & Co
E.J. Bean & Co was founded in 1949 by Captain E.J. Bean – a pilot with the Port of London Authority. Over the course of its history the company has developed an unrivalled reputation in the quayside mooring marketplace. Today, EJ Bean designs & manufactures one of the most comprehensive lines in cast iron & cast steel marine bollards worldwide.
Designed and adapted to meet the demands of modern shipping, you will see Bean bollards on quaysides worldwide. The unique design of the Bean bollard has many advantages:
- A kind path is presented to the mooring lines, avoiding damage to the ropes
- There is no possibility of the lines jamming or jumping the post when snatch or slackening is taking place or when the ship is high above the quay
- Raking lobes may be used for checking or warping
- The twin horns allow for two vessels to be moored to a single bollard independently of one another.
Cast iron, with its natural resistance to corrosion, is usually specified as the most economic material for applications where weight is not a deciding factor. Alternatively, bollards can be cast from steel and designed with a pre-determined failure point to ensure quays are not overloaded. They are manufactured in a wide range of shapes, sizes and capabilities. Common types of castings include pillar, twin horn, T head and elephant head.
Quick Release Mooring Hooks
A modern alternative to the traditional bollard, quick release hooks are a key component of an integrated mooring solution enabling a vessel to be securely moored alongside but with facility to quickly and safely release the mooring lines even when they are at full tension. An integral capstan facilitates the recovery of the moorings lines. Our hooks comply with all of the relevant industry standards and independant international classification authorities such as LRS, BV or DNV witness the tests. A unit usually comprises double, triple or quadruple hooks configures to suit specific requirements, with or without integrated capstans.
Total Jetty Monitoring and Management System
The total jetty monitoring and management system is designed to assist the mooring master during the vessel's berthing and whilst moored at the jetty. During berthing, detailed information is provided including speed of approach, distance to jetty and environmental parameters. The system components can be configured to meet a client specification or a complete system designed for a new facility; existing facilities can also be retrofitted or upgraded.
Aside from the traditional E.J. Bean product range, the company can work with customers to design and manufacture bespoke mooring solutions tailored to specific quayside applications.
