Trusted in the provision of high-quality marine foam fenders, we offer an extensive range of sizes as well as bespoke solutions.
James Fisher Fendercare’s (JF Fendercare) foam fenders make berthing operations easier, especially in difficult weather conditions, due to their high compressive strength, low reaction forces, and their ability to absorb high levels of energy during marine operations.
Unsinkable foam fenders
With memory foam at their core, our marine foam fenders are virtually unsinkable and will keep functioning – even if damaged beyond viable repair, due to the closed cell structure of the foams used. Giving you full confidence in the protection of your people and assets.
Reinforced protection
Highly durable nylon reinforcement is fitted to the outer skin of our foam fenders as standard, but we also offer Kevlar™ reinforcement systems for customers seeking the highest possible level of protection from in-service damage, and therefore the best possible return on their investment.
Foam fender design
The fender’s unique internal structure allows shear loads to be absorbed by a steel through-chain arrangement, terminating in end-shackles rather than the body of the fender itself taking this load.
This has been engineered so that in the event of overload, any damaged components of this system can be replaced in isolation – as opposed to other foam fenders where the end-fittings form an integral part of the internal workings of the fender and which, if damaged by shear forces, can lead to the fender being written off.
Key features and benefits of our marine foam fenders:
- High energy absorption/low reaction force
- Virtually unsinkable
- Simple, effective internal engineering
- Low maintenance costs
- Easy to install
- Non-marking PU elastomer skin
- Optional Kevlar™ reinforcement
- Available with best-in-class JF Fendercare chain and tyre nets
- Standard range supplemented by bespoke design service
Typically floating fenders are supplied as cylindrical units, but due to our flexible manufacturing processes and our commitment to offering the best possible assistance to our customers, we have also supplied spherical, rectangular and cog-type fenders.
Foam elastomer technology
Our foam elastomer fendering technology has significant benefits over traditional rubber, inflatable tubes, ionomer and hypalon foam options.
JF Fendercare’s elastomer foam fender benefits:
- Ultra-light in comparison to rubber fendering (from 3kg/m), therefore minimises hull weight and boosts vessel performance which is particularly crucial for projects where speed and mobility are vital
- It will not puncture or lose pressure in the way that inflatable RIB collars can, so is ideal in situations where pneumatic collars are perceived to represent too much of an operational risk
- Can offer better energy absorption properties and lower transfer of loads to the hull than ionomer-type fendering (depending on the application-driven combination of materials)
- Presents very little risk of permanent shrinkage and offers very high tear resistance, as opposed to hypalon/foam systems which can remain permanently deformed following the collision
