North Crete STS jet fuel transfer
In 2014, Fendercare Marine conducted their first Ship-to-Ship (STS) transfer operation off the island of Crete. Over 25,000 metric tonnes of Jet A1 specification fuel was safely transferred from a Long Range (LR1) size tanker to a smaller Medium Range (MR) tanker to the north of Crete. The two vessels were brought alongside each other with both ships “underway” (slow steaming) with the cargo transferred whilst vessels were drifting.
Services provided
- Full STS project management service
- STS equipment including Yokohama fenders and Yokohama hoses supplied from their Cyprus STS base
- Project specific fender mooring equipment with configuration in line with the ship’s mooring arrangements
- Operation overseen by one of the Fendercare Marine team of highly qualified and experienced STS Superintendents
- Local area risk assessment and analysis conducted
- Compatibility assessments conducted to ensure vessels were suitable for STS
