Fendercare Marine successfully completes Bay of Gibraltar LNG STS operation
Fendercare Marine, the world leader in ship-to-ship (STS) transfers, has successfully completed another STS transfer of liquefied natural gas (LNG) using its new LNG transfer system, this time off the coast of Gibraltar.
The LNG STS operation between two large LNG carriers was conducted in February 2022 inside the Bay of Gibraltar under the approval of the local port authorities.
Fendercare oversaw the entire operation and utilised its new wholly-owned, market-leading manifold-to-manifold LNG transfer system, along with composite hoses and fenders. Fendercare conducted all pre-operational studies, including a compatibility assessment, detailed risk assessments and dynamic mooring analysis.
A highly experienced and expert offshore team comprising of a Mooring Master/Person in Overall Advisory Control (POAC) and LNG Superintendents was then deployed, and all were on board throughout to ensure the operation was conducted safely and in line with local and international standards and guidelines.
Fendercare’s long-term local partner, Smith Imossi Shipping Agency, assisted by handling both vessel calls and any requirements from the ships. A combination of this excellent teamwork and the meticulous planning from Fendercare’s project management and operations team ensured that the STS was completed successfully and efficiently.
Tom Fitchew, Fendercare Marine’s business development manager, said:
“We are delighted with another very successful LNG STS, which again shows again our ability to deliver highly professional, efficient and safe transfers to our customers.
We see Gibraltar as a hub for LNG STS and would like to say a big thank you to everyone involved.”
It follows the successful completion of an LNG STS transfer for a leading global energy company off the coast of Malaysia in November 2021, as well as the first LNG STS off the coast of the Skagen Odde peninsula in Denmark the following month. As the world looks to cleaner and greener alternative sources of energy, Fendercare recognises the growing demand for LNG coupled with customers’ requirements to have prompt LNG STS solutions in strategic locations around the world.
Fendercare’s global LNG STS solutions can be utilised in various scenarios, including trade / fleet optimisation, breakbulk, buildbulk, Gas Up and Cool Down, as an alternative to terminals, bunkering and emergency.
