Princess Royal was visiting the event in her capacity as Master of Trinity House – a maritime charity dedicated to safeguarding shipping and seafarers and supporting the wider welfare of the shipping community.
The IHMA Congress brings together leading industry figures, institutions and companies from across the shipping community, with a particular focus on safety, environmental sustainability and improving efficiencies throughout the maritime sector.
Members of the Fendercare team, including Director, Lara Griffin and Business Development Manager Charlene York attended the Congress and Exhibition, and were honoured when the HRH Princess Royal approached them to discuss Fendercare’s work in improving safety in ports and harbours internationally.
Commenting on the meeting, Lara said:
“It was an honour to meet HRH Princess Royal at this year’s International Harbour Master’s Association Congress.
“We discussed Fendercare’s recent work with the General Lighthouse Authority in supplying mooring equipment for the UK’s navigational aid network and our international work in Ship to Ship (STS) operations. I even had the opportunity to explain how our submarine fenders operate.
“The Princess was knowledgeable of the sector and even of Fendercare’s work beyond fender supply – which was a nice surprise! The meeting really reinforced the important work of the IHMA, Trinity House and organisations like Fendercare in improving safety and sustainability across the sector. There was a tangible commitment demonstrated throughout the congress and I’m confident that together we can make a real difference to the welfare of seafarers in UK waters and beyond.”
