Quick release mooring hooks

Quick release mooring hooks enable ship mooring lines to be secured safely and with minimum effort to ensure safe operations and asset protection.

Fendercare Marine provides standard hooks available are single, double, triple, quadruple, double back to back and quadruple back to back, all through its sister company Strainstall. Safe working loads vary from 30 tonnes to 200 tonnes, with proof loads of up to 1.5 times the safe working load.

In oil and gas terminals, their use during cargo handling is recommended by the Oil Companies’ International Marine Forum (OCIMF) and The Society of International Gas Tanker and Terminal Operators (SIGTTO), as they form the basis of a safe mooring system.

Features of quick release mooring hooks:

  • Each hook can be released independently of each other, whether slack or under full working load
  • A two step activity to release the hooks prevents accidental release
  • Hooks move on vertical and horizontal planes
  • Shock absorbing impact blocks are installed to neutralise the energy imparted into the system at quick release so as to minimise the impact force
  • Manual operation of the hook is possible with a maximum effort of 15/ 30kg at full working load limit
  • The release mechanism is spring load assisted so the hawser can be released at very low loads
  • Each hook is designed to accept a load monitoring pin at a later stage so it can be upgraded to provide mooring load monitoring
  • All operating mechanisms are installed within the side plates, which provides as much mechanical protection as possible to the release components
  • Can be free standing or buoy mounted and are supplied with standard or pelican hooks
  • The hooks can be fitted with sensors to provide the status of the hook (open or closed, pressure indication in either hydraulic or pneumatic release systems, and oil level in hydraulic systems)
  • Has ATEX certification for Zone 1 & 2 hazardous areas

Benefits of quick release mooring hooks:

  • Forms the basis of a safe mooring system
  • Provides safe mooring line release
  • Protects personnel and infrastructure
  • Designed to withstand harsh marine environments
  • Provides long-term, reliable operation
  • Wide range of movement (horizontal and vertical)
  • Easy to install and maintain
  • Can incorporate mooring load monitoring
  • Recommended by OCIMF and SIGTTO
