Mooring buoys

Fendercare Marine supplies mooring buoys to suit a wide range of applications, offering enhanced protection and mooring performance for the commercial and leisure marine sectors.

We offer a best-in-class mooring buoy solution to our customers' requirements, either from our vast stock of standard products, or designing bespoke solutions to meet specific applications.

As well as standard steel cast buoys, Fendercare Marine has pioneered the development of advanced materials for superior performance in challenging conditions, including rotationally moulded polyethylene and elastomer type buoys.

Commercial mooring buoys

Our self-fendering commercial mooring buoys, cylindrical and barrel mooring buoys, are in service with vessel and terminal operators worldwide – and used by everything from small RIBs up to cruise ships and supertankers. Both types of buoy can be supplied in chain-through, pad-eye or handling crucifix configurations and with integrated radar reflectors. The cylindrical-type buoys can also, if required, be fitted with quick release hooks and lanterns.

The table below highlight our typical specifications, but we are able to tailored sizes to suit specific customer requirements.

Fabricated steel admiralty pattern mooring buoys

Fabricated from 8mm steel plate and constructed with watertight compartments (2 for 5th and 6th Class and 4 for the remainder) each with a manway and drain plug. Admiralty pattern mooring buoys are finished with rubber or timber fendering and life chains.

The central open hawse pipe, with reinforced collars at each end, allows for a large diameter riser chain to be lead through the buoy, ensuring all loads are transmitted directly to the mooring itself and not to the buoy.

Seaclass mooring buoy

Fendercare Marine's seaclass mooring buoys are made from advanced, lightweight materials, are virtually maintenance and corrosion free and have an operating life of over 20 years. Sizes range from 80kg to 6,000kg.

The buoys are a rotationally moulded one piece, made from seamless UV stable ployethylene with reserve buoyancy of closed cell polyurethane. This unique moulding method provides an incredible strength to weight ratio. The seaclass buoy rage also provides the ability to add or weld additional features as required, such as a navigation light pedestal etc.

  • Due to the lightweight construction method these buoys are considered ‘collision favourable’
  • Unique foam sandwich moulding method provides incredible strength
  • Virtually maintenance and corrosion free, thanks to the properties of virgin polyethylene
  • Long-term product life capable of 20 years plus

Yacht mooring buoys

Yacht mooring buoys are manufactured from a moulded core of closed cell foam covered in protective polyurethane elastomer. This makes them virtually unsinkable, even after suffering severe damage. An optional SB pick-up with a large loop handle can be attached, making retrieval of the strop easy.

Mooring load formula:

  • H x 1.5 xkg/metre up to 2 knots
  • H x 2 x kg/meter 2 to 4 knots

SB mooring buoy typical specifications:

The standard range of SB mooring buoys (SB1 – SB7) are recommended for fore and aft mooring systems.

SB soft mooring buoy typical specifications:

The standard range of SB soft mooring buoys (SB1S – SB5S) are recommended for single buoy mooring systems. They are identical in construction to the SB range except for the use of a flexible closed-cell foam which allows greater impact absorption. An optional SB pick-up with a large loop handle can be attached. This makes the retrieval of the strop easy.
