Fendercare Marine has delivered the world’s largest pneumatic fenders, after the US Navy ordered two Yokohama MEGA fenders to protect several key vessels in its fleet.
Working with the support of Yokohama, Fendercare Marine has delivered fenders that meet the US Navy’s brief of being between six and seven metres in diameter and having the ability to meet low hull pressure requirements.
Standing 6.8 m tall and 12.7m long, the Yokohama MEGA fender is the largest fully compliant ISO 17357 floating pneumatic fender ever made.
Like all Yokohama fenders, the MEGA fender is constructed using several layers of strong tyre cord arranged at optimum angles. Using the compressive elasticity of air, Yokohama fenders distribute load and stress evenly, with models like the MEGA fender coming with a safety valve as an additional precaution in the event of over compression.
They are designed to withstand extreme environmental conditions, with no deterioration in performance in temperatures of -50°C and below.
“The first delivery of our Yokohama MEGA fenders was a proud moment for us all at Fendercare. The US Navy is a long-standing and valued client of Fendercare and we were honoured to have supported in them on their latest requirement.”Brett Ward, Senior Business Development Manager – Fendercare Marine
